About the Adelaide Male Voice Choir
The Choir members come from several countries and many different professions. A love of music is the strong bond between them, and they unite with great enthusiasm in living up to the Choir’s motto: “Celebrating Choral Excellence”.

The Patron of the Adelaide Male Voice Choir is the Governor of South Australia’s husband, Mr Rod Bunten. Jonathan Leske has taken on the role of Music Director from 2024 following the retirement of William (Bill) Shaw O.A.M., and our accompanist is Edward (Ed) Kriek.
At the Mid-Year Dinner held in June 2024, we said farewell to Bill and his wife Daina, and celebrated their 39 years of service to the Choir. The occasion was honoured by the attendance of our Patron, Mr Rod Bunten who is pictured (on the right) with Bill and Daina Shaw.

The Choir has a proud tradition of good singing and good fellowship, and members enjoy these two aspects of the Choir’s life throughout the year, which is split into two seasons.
The Choir rehearses regularly during each season on Monday nights at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 139 Archer St, North Adelaide, beginning at 7.30 pm and finishing at 9.30 pm. The Choir is always interested in enrolling enthusiastic new members. Intending new members are asked to contact secretary@amvc.org.au to make arrangements about attending a rehearsal.
- MANAGEMENT – The Choir is managed by a Committee, working together with the Music Staff and a number of Officers with specific roles. See Who’s Who in the Choir ( download as a PDF).
- MEMBERSHIP – The current singing strength of the Adelaide Male Voice Choir is 38, consisting of 4 first tenors, 10 second tenors, 14 baritones and 12 basses. Members come from all walks of life, and are linked by a love of singing in the male choir format. Why not come and join the choir?
The Choir performs a number of major concerts each year, as well as smaller concerts and several social events. These engagements are undertaken with a variety of guest artists, ranging from school students to leading bands of Adelaide. A matter of pride in the Choir is the range of repertoire performed, including opera and operetta, songs from musicals, religious music, folk songs, spirituals and arrangements of modern popular pieces – there is something for all tastes. We regularly invite talented young Adelaide soloists to perform with us at our concerts, enabling them to perform a range of operatic and other works.
The Choir has maintained a fine tradition of fellowship and good singing throughout its history and has always sought to provide musical delight to its audiences. It has performed in various venues in Adelaide and the metropolitan area and has undertaken several trips to country SA and interstate. In 2008 the Choir was an honoured guest at the inaugural Pemulwuy Festival of Male Choirs in Brisbane. Several challenging pieces of music were specially commissioned for the Festival and were performed by the assembled choirs with spectacular success. While in Queensland, the Choir extended its tour to perform with the Buderim Male Choir on the Sunshine Coast. The friendly links formed on that occasion resulted in a reciprocal visit from the Buderim Male Choir to Adelaide in 2009, with the two Choirs presenting joint concerts in Adelaide and Tanunda.
